A Synchronized Skating team consists of 8 to 20 skaters that moves as one at high speeds. It was started when Dr. Richard Porter started a team called the Hockettes. The Hockettes skated out of Ann Arbor Michigan and entertained the spectators at half time that came to watch the University of Michigan's mens hockey team. Most of the skaters are females but it is a mixed gender sport. In the 1970's the sport really started to grow and lots of teams developed. The teams have to skate to music and does formations to go with it. The formations could be wheels, circle step sequences, movements of isolation, blocks, lines and intersections.
